Signing of a partnership agreement with the Environmental Research Center-Annaba

In the context of the energy transition policy adopted by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid TEBBOUN, and in implementation of the instructions of the Minister of Interior, Local Authorities and Transport, Mr. Said SAYOUD, aimed at supplying ships with electrical power at berth, thereby contributing to improving the energy efficiency of national ports and reducing polluting emissions, and in line with the strategy of the Port Services Group “SERPORT” aimed at supporting and assisting national ports on the ground, enhancing their performance and strengthening their competitiveness to reach international standards, a partnership agreement was signed on Monday, March 16, 2026, at the Environmental Research Center in Annaba, between Annaba Port Company and the Environmental Research Center.

This agreement aims to launch a project for the electrification of the quays of Annaba’s Port, based on an innovative technology developed by researchers from the Environmental Research Center – Annaba, enabling vessels berthed at the port to be supplied with electrical energy directly from the quays, thereby allowing them to shut down their engines during their stay.

This project comes within the framework of efforts to reduce noise pollution and limit gas emissions, particularly carbon dioxide emitted by ships within port basins, thus contributing to the protection of human health and the preservation of the environment and ecosystems.

It also forms part of the efforts to develop and strengthen the country’s strategic infrastructure with modern technologies in line with global standards, as well as to support the energy transition towards clean and renewable energies.
