Security Simulation Exercise at Annaba Port
According to the instructions of the Minister of the Interior, Local Authorities and Transport, Mr. Saïd SAYOUD, aimed at strengthening the level of security and vigilance in national ports in order to improve their performance and enhance their economic attractiveness, and in line with the field directives of the port services group “SERPORT” within the framework of reinforcing security preparedness and intensifying coordination among the various stakeholders, the Port Facility Security Office (PFSO) of Annaba Port organized, on Wednesday, April 29,2026 at 05.00 am, a field exercise simulating a security incident, with the active participation of the various concerned security services.
This exercise was based on a scenario involving an attempted illegal intrusion by two individuals into the port area in the southern zone of the port, with the aim of illegal emigration,
As soon as the Port Facility Security Office was informed of the incident, the emergency plan was activated, with notification of all concerned parties and the raising of the security alert level within the port facility.
Subsequently, precise and coordinated search operations were launched, with the participation of:
▪️ Internal security officers under the Port Facility Security Office of Annaba Port Company
▪️ Customs services
▪️ Maritime Border Police services at the Port of Annaba
These joint efforts made it possible to locate the two individuals. The first was apprehended at berth No. 19, while the second fled and boarded the vessel docked at the same berth, “ARUCAS.” Cornered, he found no other option but to jump into the port basin.
Immediately, the Coast Guard services intervened to secure and search the port basin, accompanied by Civil Protection services, who provided first aid to the individual before transferring him to the hospital for necessary medical care.
This exercise was successfully completed, demonstrating the high level of vigilance and professionalism of the various security bodies, and highlighting the effectiveness of their on-the-ground coordination in handling such situations.
