Annaba Port Improves Its Environmental Infrastructure with a New Bilge Water Treatment Plant
Director General of Merchant Marine and Ports Commissions the Ship Bilge Water Treatment Plant at Annaba Port
In implementation of the guidelines of Mr. Saïd SAYOUD, Minister of the Interior, Local Authorities and Transport, aimed at continuing the development and modernization of port infrastructure and services, while strengthening environmental performance and the protection of the marine environment, the Director General of Merchant Marine and Ports, accompanied by the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Port Services Group “SERPORT,” presided over the commissioning ceremony of the ship bilge water treatment plant on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Berth No. 05 of Annaba Port.
This plant represents a high-quality facility that strengthens the port’s operational and environmental capabilities by improving the treatment of liquid waste generated by maritime activities and raising standards of cleanliness, safety, and environmental protection, in compliance with international environmental requirements and standards, particularly the MARPOL Convention.
The facility is part of the efforts to modernize Annaba Port and develop its environmental infrastructure. It will enhance the quality of services, the efficiency of port operations, and the competitiveness of Algerian ports, while contributing to the protection of the marine environment and the achievement of sustainable development.
