Commissioning of the New Customs-Controlled Inland Logistics Area “El Mellaha” to Enhance the Logistics Capacity of the Port of Annaba
In implementation of the instructions of the Minister of the Interior, Local Authorities and Transport, Mr. Saïd Sayoud, aimed at strengthening logistics infrastructure, modernizing national ports, and reducing pressure on port areas in order to improve the fluidity of port operations, and in line with the directives of the Port Services Group (SERPORT), the Port Enterprise of Annaba, in coordination with the Customs Administration, has commissioned the new customs-controlled inland logistics area known as “El Mellaha”.
The “El Mellaha” area constitutes a geographical extension of the Port of Annaba. Covering an area of 2.4 hectares and offering a storage capacity of up to 3,000 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units), this new facility will gradually help reduce congestion at the commercial port, improve cargo flow, free up port space, and optimize the utilization of port infrastructure.
The area is equipped with all the facilities and infrastructure necessary to ensure the smooth operation of logistics activities for various economic operators on a continuous 24-hour-a-day, 7-day-a-week basis. It also hosts offices for the different stakeholders involved, including the Fraud Control Inspectorate as well as the Plant Health and Veterinary Services of Annaba Province.
In accordance with applicable standards, the facility is also equipped with:
• An X-ray scanner capable of processing 25 trucks per hour in mobile mode and up to 150 trucks per hour in stationary mode ;
• 24 electrical power outlets dedicated to refrigerated containers ;
• A modern fire-fighting system ;
• An advanced video surveillance system.
Furthermore, the area is scheduled for future expansion works that will significantly increase its handling and storage capacities. As a result, it will become a high-value logistics facility capable of enhancing cargo handling and storage performance, improving cargo reception and processing conditions at the Port of Annaba, strengthening the port’s competitiveness, and supporting the efficiency of the logistics and commercial supply chain.
